What is Content Marketing?

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2009

Perhaps content marketing can be summed up by simply saying “Give the people what they want.” People come online looking for information and solutions. Using content marketing to provide potential customers with the information they’re looking for is highly effective.

Content marketing can go by a lot of different names such as private media, branded content, customer media and so on, but they are all essentially content marketing. This is probably one of the best ways to make sure your marketing is being truly effective.

One definition of content marketing is: a technique of making and distributing valuable and relevant content to bring in a much defined target audience with the over all objective being the creation of sales. Basically this is a way to reaching out to your customers and potential customers in a way specifically designed to attract them to you and keep them coming back.

Content marketing is all done without overtly trying to sell a product; it is intended to educate and inform the customers. With typical marketing, the goal is to make a sale and the product or service is the main point of the approach. Content marketing is very different from this approach and has proven to be very effective.

The idea around content marketing is to deliver consistent and useful information to the customer. In return, they will reward the company with their business and, over time, their loyalty to the brand. This form of marketing creates a bond between the customer and the company. This bond is a very hard one to break and results in ongoing business over time and a loyal customer.

Traditional marketing is becoming less and less useful as customers are able to skip commercials or change the channel on the TV. Ads in papers and billboards are not interactive and provide no real help to the customer. Pop-ups on the Internet are another way advertisers try to market their products but this can be ineffective as more and more people use their pop-up blocking tools on their browsers to avoid these invasive marketing tactics.

Content marketing breaks the mold completely and as odd as it may seem, the customer is the one who searches out the information they need. Not only do they remember where they found what they needed, they remember who provided the useful information as well -and this is where the marketing comes in.

Potential customers will buy from a company they trust and feel has the same interests as they do. This is why providing helpful advice and information is so very important to this marketing strategy. Most of the time, the people reading information on a web page don’t realize they are being marketed to as they read the content.

Recent studies have shown 70-80% of people who were surveyed, felt more comfortable buying something from a company they trust. Content marketing builds trust, because the customer begins to look forward to your next content installment and may make decisions based on the information given.

Learn How to Run a Profitable Blog

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2009

Here’s a great opportunity to learn how to become a profitable blogger. Moms Talk Network is offering an awesome blogging education with their blog internships. A new session starts soon and at the end of the 10-week program, interns will be very well-prepared to run their own profitable blogs using WordPress.

If you can make a firm commitment to the program and the very reasonable time requirement, and you can learn from constructive criticism, this is an unmatched opportunity to gain the skills necessary to run a successful blog. Interns don’t have to lay out any cash for their education, but are expected to contribute blog content.

recommendedI wholeheartedly recommend the program which is run by Kelly McCausey, an inspirational coach and highly successful home business owner and blogger.

Special Report Club Review

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2008

Private Label Rights Special Reports The Special Report Club is a private label rights (PLR) membership site offering access to one special report each month. It’s an affordable alternative to hiring a writer or writing the reports yourself.

Special reports contain more information than a simple article, but are not as big and detailed as an ebook. They are great to give away as bonuses to get people to sign up for your list or as add-ons to products and services you offer.

What I like about the Special Report Club:

  1. While these special reports are written to cover many areas of Internet business content, they can be easily edited to suit my market and to express my own style and viewpoint.
  2. They can be broken up into articles, blog posts, or emails. Or I can add to a report or combine two or more to make a bigger report or ebook.
  3. I can add my own web site links, affiliate links, or even paid advertising to the reports.
  4. While I prefer editing or adding to the reports, they are very well written and can be used as is for quick incentive when needed.
  5. The reports save me time and money. I don’t have to look for, hire, and pay content writers to produce reports for me or take the time to research and write all of my own reports.
  6. I can sell the reports.

What I’m not sure I like about the Special Report Club:

  1. I can add my own name as author and claim the reports as my own. I almost added this feature to the “what I like” section above as well. I have other private label rights memberships that don’t permit me to put claim the content as my own, making it a bit awkward to figure out how to add a byline that doesn’t make it sound like I wrote it. The thing that worries me about claiming the reports as my own is the potential for confusion if readers see the same report with different marketers names on it. It’s probably not worth worrying about though; what are the chances that one person will see a report multiple times?
  2. While much less saturated than free content, PLR content is not unique content. I have to be sure and continue to provide a good deal of original content and not be tempted to rely to heavily on PLR.

5-star ratingOverall the Special Report Club gets an unconditional, 5-star rating and recommendation. It’s a very high quality, affordable content source.

There are also a limited number of reports available separately, without having to sign up for the monthly membership.

Grab a single special report or claim your membership today.

Be a Better Blogger (BABB) Update and a Gift for You

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2008

As you may know, I’ve been following the 31-day challenge to Be a Better Blogger over at ClickNewz.com. Admittedly, I fell behind and hadn’t done much with it since Day 17, Brainstorm 20 Blog Post Ideas Today. But check out the end of this post…. it includes the Day 18 task, Show Your Readers Some Appreciation, and I’ve been playing catch up for the past few days.

Some of the latest tasks were easy. Day 19 and 20 are things I’ve always done so I just marked those complete, and I had already customized our blog design. Others took some doing… and day 27 will take some time by definition (spend 2 hours writing a post). I’m holding off on day 24, Advertise On StumbleUpon until I spend those 2 hours on a post so I can use that post for the ad. :) Other than that I’m still working on making new blog friends and just waiting to hear back from the guest blogger article I pitched as well as the guest blogger I invited to write something.

Even though I haven’t completed every BABB step, I have at least read and learned from each daily post. And the idea really was to start developing new habits that will make us better bloggers from now on, not just for the month. I think I’ve done that. I’ve learned a lot and hope that you’ve noticed some improvements to the Business Opportunity Connection.

Thank YouReader Appreciation
Thank you for taking the time to read the Business Opportunity Connection. I’m sure your life is very full and it can be hard to find the time. I hope we have provided useful information or a bit of entertainment for you.

As a token of my appreciation, and in the spirit of developing better [blogging] habits, please download a complimentary copy of The Guide to Good Habits.

And please leave a comment below if only to say “hi” and introduce yourself. I’d like to get to know more about you.

Of course your feedback about BABB, “The Good Habits Guide,” and our blog in general are always welcome and appreciated!

BABB Had Me Busy for Days!

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2008

In the midst of participating in “Be a Better Blogger” over at ClickNewz.com, I decided I just had to have a new blog theme. While I was customizing the theme I tried to incorporate the daily tasks and all of that has kept me very busy for days.

BusyThe BABB tasks I worked on over the past few days are:

BABB Day 4 – Sidebar Makeover – The goal of this task was to de-clutter the sidebar. I’m not sure if I’ve succeeded. It certainly is different than it was before and I’ve incorporated some new elements that have to do with the next couple of BABB tasks. There’s definitely more information in my sidebar now than there was before, but I think it’s all readable and worthwhile.

BABB Day 5 – Highlight Posts – This assignment was to feature some popular posts to give direction to new visitors. I chose to highlight some that I think are good starting points for visitors.

BABB Day 6 – Become More Social – Continue Reading

Already Behind – BABB Day 2

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2008

blog imagesThankfully, the day 2 task is much easier – all I have to do is make a post that includes an image.

Here ya’ go! I’m ready for day 3 ;)

But it turned out to be not as easy as I thought. I tend to get lost looking for photos. I find one or two and then think, “maybe there’s a better one,” and I continue searching. One photo leads to another and then an idea for modifying them to better suit my purpose. I end up spending way too much time! I need to work on a solution for that.

Do you want to Be a Better Blogger (BABB)? There’s still time to catch up. Join us at ClickNewz.

Want to Be a Better Blogger?

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2008

I’m joining in with ClickNewz and taking 31 steps – one a day all this month – to be a better blogger (BABB). How about joining us? If you already have a blog it’s a great way to make improvements. And if you don’t have one yet, it’s a great time to start!

I just gone done with day 1 in the nick of time… it’s just a few minutes before midnight as I write this post. Check out the new About page. (For comparison sakes, see how the old one read here.)

I peeked… tomorrow’s task is a little easier so you’ll have time to catch up if you start BABB now.

You Still Need Great Copy (Web 2.0 Follow-up)

Posted by Linda Stacy in 2007

If you haven’t been hiding under a rock in the last little while, you’ve probably heard all about Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is the trend of having more interaction via the internet. People have added blogs, forums, online voting communities, chat rooms and other features to their online presence that make it possible to hear quickly from potential clients. It makes it easier to meet their needs.

The traditional online sales letter goes back to the early days of the Internet. Back then most browsers were text-based therefore most web content was text-only. Eventually images and graphics were supported and websites quickly began reflecting that. Not much else changed. The slow Internet connections that were commonplace up until just a few years ago prohibited quick viewing of anything beyond that, so most sites stuck to text and small pictures.

Once the Internet became commonplace in homes, things began to change. Broadband connections became less expensive and more people got connected at higher speeds. This brought forth the incentive to explore audio, video and advanced social applications. Web 2.0 was born.

Sales letters still had not changed much at this point. For the most part, they were still comprised of long, scrolling copy broken up with the occasional picture or graphic. Even then, it still worked, but as Web 2.0 became more prevalent people began to want more. Not more text but more interactivity.

Is There Still a Place for Online Copy?
