Five Ways to Become a Better Blogger

Posted on November 30, 2009 by Linda Stacy

Better BloggerWhile the actual process of blogging is simple, getting the traffic and the revenue from your blog that you desire can be more difficult. Here are five ways to improve your blogging skills.

1. Keep up with the times. No one wants to read last month’s news. A blogger has to know what is going on in the world yesterday, today and tomorrow. Some important issues stay in the headlines for months but your audience will want fresh updates on those topics. Knowing what is going on around you and what will interest others will make your blog content worth reading.

2. Change your content often. There is nothing worse than losing traffic you’ve worked hard to attract because you don’t update your posts. You might not post every day but you can be sure that your readership will drop off it you only post once a month. Readers like fresh content and they will go where they can get it. If you have trouble producing enough of your own material, consider hiring a writer, ask others to guest post on your blog, use PLR content, and even sprinkle in some free content.

3. Network with others. Get your content out there. Register with search engines and join social bookmarking sites like Technorati and Digg so people can see what you are doing. Share your blog address with friends on your profile page on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

4. Pay attention to your readership. When people comment they would like for you to answer them back. Some ask questions and some just want to let you know that they agree or disagree with what you’ve said. Take the time to talk to them. After all, they took the time to visit and post a comment. Their comments can drive the direction your blog takes in the future if you want to keep them as readers and increase your traffic.

5. Keep your ads to a minimum. Ads are a way for bloggers to make money with their sites. That’s all well and good and a few ads are great and will attract attention. If you post too many, however, visitors might be turned off. You want your content to be the main attraction.

Creating interesting content and keeping readers coming back takes time and effort. Use these five tips to enhance the value of your blog and your effort will pay off.

Perks:

  • Membership is limited to 500 members to reduce competition
  • 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • Membership can be cancelled any time.

Thoughts:

I’ve used quite a few private label rights products from this service and highly recommend it. This is very high quality content that can be uploaded and used as is. But one of my favorite things about PLR is that it can be rewritten to make it more suited to a specific target audience and more in my own voice. You can also add your own web site links, affiliate links, or even paid advertising to the reports. Best of all, PLR content saves time and money, by eliminating the need to research and write all of your own material or to look for, hire, and pay content writers.

One thing I would caution you about when joining a content membership service such as this. To get the most out of it you need to be prepared to spend some time each month downloading, reviewing, and implementing the content. Otherwise you may end up simply storing hundreds of unused articles and reports (Of course you can always use it later on, but for me personally, I find that if I don’t use it with a month or two, I tend to forget about it.) If you are planning on using the content on your blog, your membership includes a handy tool that allows you to instantly publish the content to your blog with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Don’t Be Afraid to Market to Your Mailing List

Posted on October 7, 2009 by Linda Stacy

I’m sure you’ve heard it time and time again… to maintain a successful online business you must build and market to a mailing list. But for many of us, selling to our list is a daunting and intimidating task.

If you have not yet made the attempt to promote your business to your subscribers, or you feel in the wrong when you do, it’s time to overcome your fear of selling to your list so you can make more money. And here’s just the help you need to learn how to grow your list, reduce your workload, and boost your income.

You’ll get access to:

  • 4 Succinct and Easy-to-Follow Training Guides with Complimentary Audios that will help you start making big changes in your email marketing.
  • 4 Practical Assignments: To help you immediately apply what you learn to your business.
  • Bonus Checklists, Idea Sheets, and Yearly Email Planner: These easy-to-reference printables will keep you on task when it comes to building your list, and help you take that all important action step.
  • Bonus Audio & Transcript on Confidently Selling to Your List: A 60-minute interview with Alice Seba where she gives you the scoop on the most frequently asked questions about starting and growing a profitable email list.
  • Bonus Opt-in Template & Complete Instructions: A fully customizable opt-in page template to help you start building targeted lists.

A few email marketing tips:

If you have not yet made the attempt to promote your business to your subscribers, don’t act hastily by inundating them with an onslaught of email promotions. Start out slow and test the waters first. An initial email letting them know you will be sending them valuable offers will open the lines of communication and lessen the shock value of advertisements appearing in their inboxes. This is an opportunity to sell yourself and your business while gaining their trust before the “sales” even begin. Most of your list will respond favorably, but you will likely lose some subscribers. But that’s okay because those that opt-out weren’t likely to become customers anyway.

Once your list knows what to expect, you can begin the actual task of promoting. That does not mean to send them multiple offers on a daily basis until they exile your address to the world of SPAM. However, it does mean that you will have to stay on top of contacting your list and make a point of doing so frequently enough to stay current and fresh in their minds without filling their inboxes with clutter.

It is also important to maintain a balance between content-driven emails and those containing promotions. Selling to your list requires a delicate balance. Alternate between information and advertising. You want to remain to be a voice your subscribers can trust without becoming too sales-driven and you also want to make sure your advertisements are clear without getting lost in your content.

Free Private Label Rights (PLR) Content

Posted on July 24, 2009 by Linda Stacy

It’s can be difficult to find high quality free private label rights content, but the Niche Audio Club is an exception. It’s is a newer private label rights membership site that offers both a free and paid option.

Resource or related articleClick here to check out the free membership.

I’ve been a free member for just a couple of months, but I’m quite impressed with the quality of the material that’s available to me. The first couple of subjects aren’t in my niche so I haven’t used those ebooks, but they would be suitable for some direct sales categories.

Each free product comes with a professional sales letter and graphics, so if the ebook suits you as is, you can have your sales site set up very quickly. The ebooks can also be modified to better suit your needs.

The paid upgrade includes an audio recording of the monthly content and additional marketing material including articles and email ads. When I initially joined I had hoped there was on option to just purchase individual product upgrades, but that’s not the case. The upgrade is a monthly membership and once you cancel it, you can’t rejoin. But I do appreciate the free membership because it gave me a chance to evaluate the quality and usefulness of the material before joining.

As with most free membership sites, Niche Audio Club materials say that there won’t always be a free option. So have a look at it today, and secure your
free membership as soon as you can. A refund can be requested for the first month’s fee.

The Importance of Good Content

Posted on July 8, 2009 by Linda Stacy

Quality content is increasingly important to online success. As Internet users become more and more savvy, they are quick to judge and even quicker to click away from websites that don’t address their needs and wants. Web pages full of links and ad, and devoid of information, not only turn away visitors, but popular search engines are now using sophisticated programs to week out such sites.

Good content helps your site get to the top of Internet searches and it’s important to help make you money once people get to your website. Visitors figure if your website isn’t high quality, neither is anything they can find there. Quality content helps them stick around longer and helps builds trust in the quality of your site and products and services.

Quality content is also important for getting links to your site. You can submit your content to article archives and when other webmasters use your content it includes a link to your site. This raises your search engine rankings. Quality content also gets people talking about you, whether it’s on blogs and on social media.

So, what is good content? Continue Reading

Does Your Small Home Business Need a Logo?

Posted on June 17, 2009 by Linda Stacy

Ben Johnson, LogoinnAs the New Media Marketing Specialist, Ben Johnson looks after the marketing and business development activities for Logoinn, a design company based in Leicester, UK. He’s been working as their Marketing Manager for two years, and with his more than five years experience in the industry, he has gained a good understanding of the logo design process and the different types of business logos.

Ben kindly took the time to answer my questions about the benefits of a logo for a small home business.

Does someone who runs a home business marketing other people’s products (direct sales consultants or affiliate marketers, for example) need their own logo?

In contemporary times, branding is fundamental whether you run a large organization or home based business. You need to differentiate yourself from your competitors. For that reason, you will most likely need to have a brand identity, and of course, a logo plays a vital role in creating a unique brand identity.

Moreover, a business logo makes you recognizable for customers. People instantly recognize all about your business when they see your logo on any type of marketing collateral.

How soon should a new business start using a logo? Continue Reading

What is Content Marketing?

Posted on April 21, 2009 by Linda Stacy

Perhaps content marketing can be summed up by simply saying “Give the people what they want.” People come online looking for information and solutions. Using content marketing to provide potential customers with the information they’re looking for is highly effective.

Content marketing can go by a lot of different names such as private media, branded content, customer media and so on, but they are all essentially content marketing. This is probably one of the best ways to make sure your marketing is being truly effective.

One definition of content marketing is: a technique of making and distributing valuable and relevant content to bring in a much defined target audience with the over all objective being the creation of sales. Basically this is a way to reaching out to your customers and potential customers in a way specifically designed to attract them to you and keep them coming back.

Content marketing is all done without overtly trying to sell a product; it is intended to educate and inform the customers. With typical marketing, the goal is to make a sale and the product or service is the main point of the approach. Content marketing is very different from this approach and has proven to be very effective.

The idea around content marketing is to deliver consistent and useful information to the customer. In return, they will reward the company with their business and, over time, their loyalty to the brand. This form of marketing creates a bond between the customer and the company. This bond is a very hard one to break and results in ongoing business over time and a loyal customer.

Traditional marketing is becoming less and less useful as customers are able to skip commercials or change the channel on the TV. Ads in papers and billboards are not interactive and provide no real help to the customer. Pop-ups on the Internet are another way advertisers try to market their products but this can be ineffective as more and more people use their pop-up blocking tools on their browsers to avoid these invasive marketing tactics.

Content marketing breaks the mold completely and as odd as it may seem, the customer is the one who searches out the information they need. Not only do they remember where they found what they needed, they remember who provided the useful information as well -and this is where the marketing comes in.

Potential customers will buy from a company they trust and feel has the same interests as they do. This is why providing helpful advice and information is so very important to this marketing strategy. Most of the time, the people reading information on a web page don’t realize they are being marketed to as they read the content.

Recent studies have shown 70-80% of people who were surveyed, felt more comfortable buying something from a company they trust. Content marketing builds trust, because the customer begins to look forward to your next content installment and may make decisions based on the information given.
