Shared goals make good teams
Posted on February 25, 2005 by Linda Stacy

When looking for a network marketing sponsor, look for someone who shares your goals. She doesn’t have to already be where you want to go, but if she’s moving in the same direction she can share her successes and failures with you to help you get there. If you have a common goal it will be easier to work together and stay motivated.

And find out what your sponsor does to help her downline meet their goals. Does she provide any special training or hold team meetings? Ask about her team & how many other people has she sponsored; how many are still active; how many have reached higher sales levels or build their own teams?

Finding a mentor who shares your goals will help keep you motivated and successful.

This is what the blog looked like back then. I remember being so proud that I had figured out how to change the color of the default WordPress theme.

Business Opportunity Connection Anniversary

I had been online for about 3 years before launching the Business Opportunity Connection. Before blogging, I frequented message boards and chat rooms for Work at Home Moms and belonged to a couple of Yahoo Groups where we discussed business via email. Twitter was basically unheard of and Facebook was still just for college students.

Things have changed quite a bit in five years, but there’s one thing I work really hard to keep the same – I always do my best to offer quality tips and resources to help you choose your direct sales business and market it online.

Let’s celebrate! Here are your gifts:

March 1, 2010 – Sorry… the gifts are no longer available. Please click here to find our special reports, including some free reports.

I look forward to connecting with you for another 5 years!

Spotlight on Laga Handbags – A Future for Tsunami Survivors

Posted on February 15, 2010 by Linda Stacy

When Roy van Broekhuizen returned home after helping with relief efforts following the 2004 earthquake and subsequent tsunamis in Indonesia, he was driven to do more. So he and his wife Louise formed Laga Designs International to provide employment and hope for survivors.

Tsunami survivors and others in need handcraft Laga’s embroidered handbags and travel bags, natural fiber bags for the Tasik Collection, and beaded purses. Independent consultants sell the bags at home parties and through other direct sales methods.

Video Contest Inspires the Art of Being Less Than Perfect

Posted on February 8, 2010 by Linda Stacy

UPDATE: The contest ended and the winners have been announced. Congratulations Marie and Ponn!

There’s a fun contest going on at MomWebs Hosting Resource or related article which inspired me to do something I don’t normally do, and that I’m not all that good at. I entered the contest with my video creation. I had a great time making the video, but more importantly, it’s great practice for me in the art of being less than perfect. :)

I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist – in school, on the job, as a parent, and as a business owner. But guess what… I’m not perfect! There, I said it; I’m human and I just can’t be good at everything. Often, less than perfect is absolutely great!

Many of us tend to build our own obstacles, some of which can be paralyzing. Perfectionism is a huge obstacle. Waiting until a website or video is perfect before releasing it pretty much guarantees it will never get launched. A website is a work in progress that will never be complete, never mind perfect. And agonizing over every detail of a video will produce lots of self-doubt. There’s always something else that can be added or changed.

Does that mean that I think it’s okay to throw together a mess and put it out there? Of course not. Websites, marketing materials, and products should be well thought out, of good quality, and professional. Just don’t let fear stop you from trying. Less than perfect is definitely good enough.

And so, I’ve produced this great, less than perfect video. Enjoy!

The contest is closed, but voting is open. Check it out and pick your favorite… maybe me? Please! :) Vote at:

Thanks!

The contest deadline is tonight, but if you hurry, you can still practice the art of less than perfect and enter your own creation. Click: video promotion contest details.

Easy PLR for Direct Sales Consultants

Posted on December 21, 2009 by Linda Stacy

Nicole Dean from EasyPLR.com was kind enough to answer a few questions about how direct sales consultants can use private label rights (PLR) articles for their business.

PLR articles are basically article drafts that are sold to bloggers and online business owners. You can purchase these articles very inexpensively and then use them on your website, in your customer newsletters, or even in team training. (We’ll get into that in a bit.)

My favorite thing about using PLR articles is that you can change the articles and customize them (since you get the articles in Word format as a .doc) and in many cases even put your own name as the author.

Here’s what Nicole had to say about PLR for direct sellers.

Prefer video? Click here to watch.

Hi Linda! Thanks so much for asking me for an interview. :) I’m glad to help.

questionDoes EasyPLR offer content specifically for direct sales?

answerYes. My site, EasyPLR does offer articles regularly just for direct sales. We create those packs for team leaders to use in recruiting members and training their teams.

Article titles that we’ve had in the past are:

  • Direct Sales Beginner’s Dictionary
  • Avoiding Last Minute Cancellations
  • Do You Have What It Takes To Succeed In Direct Sales?
  • Things to Look for In a Direct Sales Recruiter

As you can see, the potential is truly limitless with this type of content. Not only can you use the articles to recruit new members and to train your existing team, you could create an ebook or even a printed book and sell it on amazon.com and lulu.com – becoming an instant expert in your field.

All for the price of a pizza.

It’s pretty powerful stuff.

questionCan PLR content about other topics be easily adapted to direct sales or to a specific product line (like jewelry or gourmet food for example)?

answerAbsolutely. My sister site, YummyPLR.com offers all kinds of cooking articles that a Tupperware rep or another gourmet food rep could easily incorporate into their business.

And, at EasyPLR.com we have plenty of content that can be adapted to a direct sales business – fitness and diet, parenting, holidays, debt, pets, and home interior. Plus, if you need content and we don’t have it on hand, just ask. We oftentimes can create an article pack if you provide us with the titles that you need.

questionCan the PLR content be used for printed material like recruiting brochures or training for team members?

answerAbsolutely. In fact, I highly recommend that you repurpose the content in several ways to get the most bang for your buck. (Repurpose simply means to use the content in multiple ways.)

For instance, post the training on your own training blog, then send it in an email, and use it in printed materials, as well. You can also read the articles after you’ve tweaked them a bit, and offer audio or video training, too.

questionDoes EasyPLR offer any training or help on how to use the PLR content?

answerDefinitely. First you can sign up for my notification list at EasyPLR.com where you’ll receive more information and a free report – as well as notices for free and discounted PLR. Also, every article pack includes additional bonuses that will help your online business.

Just swing by EasyPLR.com and YummyPLR.com to see what we currently have available.

Nicole Dean

Internet FAQ: How Do I Get More Traffic?

Posted on September 8, 2009 by Linda Stacy

Internet FAQOne of the most frequently asked questions I see on the Internet is “How do I get more traffic to my website (or blog)?” While it is of course important to attract a good deal of traffic, what we really need is customers. It isn’t all that hard to get thousands of visitors to your site, especially if you can pay for them. But unless they are people who will buy your products or services (or subscribe to your newsletter or do whatever it is you want them to do when they get there), what good is all that traffic?

There are people who will argue that it’s all a numbers game and claim that if you get thousands of visitors, some of them will be paying customers. And while that’s probably true, wouldn’t you rather use your resources to gain a solid number of quality visitors? (And in case you’re thinking that you found the perfect free method for getting massive traffic, remember that free methods cost you time, and your time is valuable too.)

Improve your results by focusing on getting targeted, quality traffic for your website or blog. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. Make sure your website is ready for visitors. No, it doesn’t have to be perfect, but it must deliver what you promise in your marketing. And keep in constantly updated with fresh content.
  2. Have a marketing plan. Know who you want to attract and what you want them to do when the arrive at your site. Define measurable goals.
  3. Put tracking in place so you know where your site visitors come from and whether or not they follow through when they get there.
  4. Focus on a few key marketing methods to start with and as you become proficient in those, add others.
  5. Remember, success won’t happen overnight. It’s a long term process that improves with age.
  6. Concentrate on tried and true methods like search engine keyword optimization, backlink building, blogging, article marketing, networking, social media marketing, and advertising.

You can’t be all thing to all people and you don’t want all people visiting your website. Focus on gaining quality, targeted, and loyal visitors to your website. They will become your fans and customers.

Scentsy Helps Small Businesses and You Can Too

Posted on September 4, 2009 by Linda Stacy

Contribute 2009The summer of 2009 marked Scentsy’s fifth anniversary and the company celebrated by giving their employees and their local business community a huge gift. Their gift was so well received and effective that they’re reaching out to the entire country with a simple idea that can have a big impact on local economies.

The goal of Scentsy’s “Contribute 2009″ campaign is “to inspire 100,000 people to pledge to spend an extra $50 at locally owned small businesses on October 12, 2009.” And they expect a ripple effect that will multiply the benefit. According to the American Independent Business Alliance, when you purchase from a locally owned business rather than a national chain, more of that money goes back into your local community.

Participate and show your support for your local small businesses. Learn more and sign the “Contribute 2009″ pledge at http://www.scentsycontribute.org/. Spread the word and encourage others to join in.
