I’m certain you’re busy enough already; you don’t need anything else to do. But when you market online there are all kinds of distractions that can eat up your time and cut into your income.
I just read a message board discussion complaining about spam email being sent to board members. A little vent is fine, but don’t waste your time trying to “convert” spammers to the good side. If you have an online presence, spam happens. What better revenge is there than to ignore it and spend your time making more money? Your best course of action is to develop a plan to reduce the amount you get and to efficiently deal with the junk that gets through.

And speaking of message boards…. they can be a great place to network or to take a break, but be careful. You can easily get sucked into all kinds of discussions and debates. Not only can you end up spending countless wasted hours, but if your emotions start to run high you can damage your reputation. Limit the amount of time you spend on message boards and stick to business discussions on your networking boards. It’s good to give a little of yourself personally, but take your personal problems to a site that is geared towards those issues and where you won’t be promoting your business.
Email is another major distraction online. That cute “you have mail” notification sound is like a magnet that can draw you in the minute you hear it. Set the interval between email checks to a much longer time or better yet, close your email client while you’re working on other tasks to avoid the distraction all together.
Just eliminating those three distractions can save a lot of time that you can use to promote your business and increase your revenue. Pay attention to other distractions you encounter during the day and eliminate them too. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much time you can reclaim.
