Every once in a while I find myself tempted to join a direct sales company. Not because I need or want another business, but because I come across a company that I think would be great to join. In just the past few weeks a couple of new companies caught my interest.
SimplyFun.com sounds, well… simply fun.
What a fun and easy sales party that would be…. invite some friends over to play some games and let them order the ones they like.
PlantMakers.com appeals to me because it’s such a unique product that solves the problem most people have with houseplants. Incorrect watering is the most common cause of houseplants’ demise. PlantMakers plants grow in a special medium that requires less frequent watering and that pretty much announces when the plant needs watering.
And because they’re so new, both companies would be “ground floor” opportunities. Of course there’s some risk involved in joining a brand new company, but if they thrive, the rewards will be great.

It’s funny you mention that because many people in direct sales don’t get into it for the money…some for the discount, others for the vacations, and some just for fun.
The things I’d suggest looking at are:
as you said – longevity of the company – you don’t want a company shutting it’s doors with your customer’s money and nothing to show
diverse line of products – if it’s too much of a specialty, your’re limiting yourself…and your business
priorities of the company – do they give back to the community and/or family oriented?
a big one – HIDDEN COSTS! Some boast high commisions…only to charge silly fees. i.e. show processing, credit card fees, etc. Be sure to find out about those!
There are some solid businesses that have been around a while and can still be considered ground floor opporunities…depending on how saturated the market is (or isn’t). The company I sell for has been in business for 34 years now, and many people still haven’t heard of them…making it wonderful for me!
So, if you know anyone looking at getting into something like this (or if you really do get tempted yourself) feel free to check out or refer anyone to the company I sell for…they really are like a family, have awesome products to organize and decorate with (just like all the hottest shows on television…organizing and decorating…it’s the thing to do!) & they have been around for 34 years! You can find out about them or browse my catalog at www.MyHomeMakersIdea.com/JP4841
But no matter what companies you consider, choose one whose products YOU truly enjoy…and give it a try. Even if you only do it for no real reason…you’ll be amazed how much fun and how profitable it really can be! I have my business for six years and still love it…which of course, is the most imoportant thing to me.
