Choosing a business – should you really pick your product first?

Posted on July 1, 2005 by Linda Stacy

One of the most common pieces of advice I see work at home moms giving is that in order to be successful in a home business you have to “find a product you are passionate about.” And I used to give that same advice….. but I’m no longer sure it’s the best advice.

Not too long ago Alice Seba, one of the most successful online, wahm marketers I know, offered this advice: To be successful, you should sell what your target market is buying. (Read her article, How to Choose an Online Business – It’s Not About Your Products. It’s About Your Target Market.)

Of course I still think you need to believe in your product, but no matter how passionate you are about something, you won’t be successful if the people you try to sell to just aren’t interested in buying it. If you find something your target market is passionate about buying, you’ll succeed.
