Hi John. Thanks for your comments. The key to understanding customers' needs is listening. I think we all have a tendency to get so caught up in delivering our own presentation or message that we talk too much and forget to listen. Often we just need to ask the right question and then shut up. :)

I agree that in Direct Marketing, not only Time management is essential but also patience and empathy plays a very big role. Understanding and acknowledging the needs are also essential. How do we break this barrier?

Hi Glenn; thanks for commenting. I've always said that the hardest part about working at home is that I'm always at work. When I had a job, I would go home in the evening and forget about work. Now I tend to go back to my desk to do "one more little thing." But when I do as you suggest and put myself into "work mode" for a certain number of hours, I am more productive and less like to get drawn back to it later.

I believe, because I find myself falling into it, that many people who work from home do not do a good job of separating their work time from their family time. At times, it seems like I am working all day long and into the night but when I look back at the day, I took a couple of hours at lunchtime and then did some errands, came back, puttered around the house, watched some tv and then it was 5pm. I found that if I put my mind in the work mode, like getting up early, showering, getting dressed and then go to my home office and start work on a regular basis, my day will be a lot more productive and create better value for me and my family. And at 6pm I don't ask myself "Where did the day go?".

Hello Guide. I think time management is difficult for most people no matter what business they're in, or even for those who aren't in business. Life just seems to get more hectic every day. Those that master the skill definitely accomplish more.

Time management is quite honestly the toughest but perhaps the most important aspect of direct marketing. I find it very tough when one meeting goes on for more time than expected and then all other meetings in the day get delayed.
