Is the FTC selling ice cream?

The FTC is fighting fire with ice cream and I think it’s a great way to get the message across. Combined with their recent crackdown on home business scams, this type of education will hopefully help cut down on the number of scam victims. They’ve set up a series of these sample scams and a new business opportunties website that provides more information for consumers.

To avoid being scammed, educate yourself, reseach the company, and make sure all of your questions are answered before you sign. Be sure you completely understand what you’ll be selling and how you’ll be selling it. Some of the warning signs that a business might be a scam are promises of huge profits with little or no work, companies with no real product or service for sale, and offers to pay you for recruiting others. Trust your instincts and never allow yourself to be pressured into joining.
