Questions to Ask Before Purchasing Online Advertising

One of the many ways business owners choose to advertise online is by paying for services from big companies who specialize in getting you traffic that will in turn increase your chances for leads and sales. There are many methods of advertising out on the Internet today. Many business owners find that advertising online is much more affordable than in the offline world, and has the potential to reach a global audience rather than just a city or state. In order to make sure you know exactly what you are paying for, there are questions to ask before purchasing online advertising.

Here are some questions you might consider asking before you proceed with your advertising campaign.

  1. Make sure you clearly understand the terms of your advertising purchase.

    a. What are the text and/or graphic requirements and limits? Text ads may be limited to a certain number or words or certain number of characters. Graphic ads often specify a size in pixels and sometimes limit the file size as well.
    b. How long will your ad run? Some ads run for a specific lengthy of time and others may be sold by number of impressions or number of clicks on the ad.
    c. Can you make changes to your ad?

  2. Find out how popular the site is and whether it reaches your target market. Before you purchase any advertising, ask for the site's visitor statistics, specifically visitors and page views. Also take a look at the website as a whole to see if it's likely to attract the market you are trying to reach. It's the combination that will lead to a successful ad. Smaller sites can be good choices if the audience is highly targeted.

  3. What does the company do to promote their site and boost search engine placement? One important aspect that is crucial to your online advertising, is knowing how the service you will be paying for is going to help you get noticed in the search engines. Ask what they do to promote their site and their advertisers. Do they follow good SEO practices, how is it all structured, and what type of marketing they use to bring the visitors in. These will all impact the amount of traffic you will receive to your own site.

Don't be hasty when looking for online advertising services for your business. Consider these questions before purchasing online advertising and be sure you understand what you're getting. With careful consideration, you should be able to find a quality service that will help your business grow.
